There are several excellent colleges in Florida that offer a master’s degree in social work (MSW). This degree provides the opportunity to work in a clinical setting, including in public schools.
Most of the Florida colleges and universities provide a MSW program with the same entrance requirements, which include a bachelor’s degree from a CSWE-accredited university, with a GPA of 3.0, or a 3.5 GPA for advanced placement. They also require three letters of recommendation and a personal letter or essay. The programs offer a two year full-time program or four years for part-time.
Florida state colleges and universities have classes offered in the early morning and in the evening. Attending classes on campus provides study group opportunities and full-time access to professors.
There are also many excellent on-line programs. The application requirements are the same as the MSW campus requirements. Fordham University offers field placement in addition to an asynchronous schedule for classes. This is ideal for someone who works as they can plan there on-line study times to meet their scheduling needs. The part-time course takes 3 and half years to complete.
Florida State University offers MSW programs in Florida and on-line. The on-line courses are asynchronous; however, this program is only available for students with a BSW earned from a Council on Social Work Education accredited university or a student transferring from a similar accredited program
Virginia Commonwealth University has a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous elements, plus they also require an internship.
These are three examples of types of on-line programs, each with a different type of schedule. There are advantages to receiving your education online or at a campus.
